NOTE FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
The number of publications devoted to the questions of biology and ecology, physiology and biochemistry, molecular biology and seaweeds genetics grows year after year. Such heightened interest is caused by their significance and them being not only important forage but also the place of living and spawning of many water organisms. Moreover, the importance of the seaweeds studying is connected with their role in strengthening coastal grounds and preventing toxic substances from waterside drains from penetration, while simultaneously synthesizing valuable biological active substances, which are widely-used in various areas of national economy. And, at last, seaweeds are excellent model objects with wide adaptive potential. It is also important that they take up various ecological niches and live in diversified conditions. On this basis, it is evident that the need for studying various aspects of the seaweeds is colossal.

I express hope that the journal “Issues of modern algology” will become the centre of consolidation of efforts of the specialists working in this incredibly interesting scientific area.
